Personal Mentor Program
Despite their large numbers, new immigrant children and youth are often plagued with a sense of loneliness, alienation, personal failure and social stigmatization. This prevention program is designed for immigrant children (ages 6-12) who are experiencing social, academic and cultural integration challenges. Israeli high school students are carefully selected and professionally trained to act as personal mentors and meet individually with their assigned participant once a week. Once a month, 15 of these pairs come together and participate in group social and cultural activities. The combination of the one-on-one weekly support and the monthly group framework provides them with a positive outlet, consistent on-going support and a group atmosphere which gives them a sense of belonging.
